CAR, TL and 4x4 TYRE
WINTER TREAD
COMPOUND
The key performance indicators for a seasonal winter tyre are the ability to handle emergency situations on icy and/or snowy roads, and wet grip, evaluated in terms of braking efficiency and traction.
Performance on ice and snow is certified through winter homologations (3PMSF and N), which are mandatory for the commercialization of retreaded tyres as well.
For a retreaded tyre, there is no official homologation for wet braking, but tests can be carried out at certified institutions (TÜV, IDIADA, etc.) following the testing procedures used for new tyres, in order to propose a performance level using the same criteria.
Eurorubber, in collaboration with new tyre manufacturers, has conducted several wet braking tests using various tread compounds. These tests have provided insight into the impact of different formulations and, more importantly, into the role of the physical and mechanical characteristics of the compound components on overall performance (compound + retreading process), as well as the resulting classification (rank) according to the EU labeling regulations for new tyres (EU 1222/2009 and 740/2020).
The wet grip class according to Regulation EU 1222/2009 (EU 740/2020) is determined by the results of braking tests on wet road surfaces.

Tests are conducted at certified European institutions, and the wet grip index is expressed by a coefficient (G), which is the ratio between the result, in terms of braking distance or deceleration, of the tyre being tested and that of the reference tyre (SRTT).
