NITRILE
RUBBERS

Classification
Nitrile elastomers are polymers based on butadiene-acrylonitrile. Products made from these rubbers exhibit high resistance to gasoline and aliphatic hydrocarbons, vegetable, animal, and mineral oils and fats, as well as many solvents. Nitrile rubbers also provide vulcanized products with excellent mechanical properties, low compression set, high abrasion resistance, and good gas permeability. These products can withstand temperatures ranging from -50°C to +125°C.

Polymer Type
Nitrile elastomers differ in their acrylonitrile content, which can range from 18% to 50%. The different combinations significantly affect flexibility at low temperatures and chemical resistance.

Applications

Nitrile rubbers are used for a wide range of applications where high resistance to oils and fuels is required. These application sectors are diverse and include the chemical and petrochemical industries, the automotive industry, construction, and the food industry. Nitrile compounds are suitable for all typical rubber processing technologies, including both compression molding and calendaring, with vulcanization in hot air, steam, or UHF.

It is possible to design compounds to meet specific requirements or specifications for the production of items such as:

  • Molded and extruded products for the automotive, chemical, mining, construction, and agricultural industries
  • Ink rollers and for the paper industry
  • Conveyor belts for construction and mining industries
  • Industrial and military footwear
  • Fuel hoses and for oily products
  • Sealing rings
  • Gaskets for brakes and clutches
  • Expanded tubes for thermal insulation
  • O-ring

Nitrile rubbers are also used in the plastics sector (PVC, ABS, etc.) as a polymeric plasticizer.
