Classification
Natural rubber is extracted from the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis in plantations located in Africa, Asia, and South America. Its molecular structure is that of cis-1,4 polyisoprene. Natural rubber is classified according to international standards that take into account purity and viscosity.
Polymer Type
Natural rubber and polyisoprene are distinguished by their excellent mechanical properties (tensile strength and tear resistance) even without reinforcing fillers. Additionally, the derived compounds show excellent elastic performance, resistance to permanent deformation, and creep.
Applications
In addition to widespread use in tires, NR (Natural Rubber) and IR (Synthetic Polyisoprene) are used in compounds for applications where elastic performance, mechanical strength, and resistance to permanent deformation/creep are essential: anti-vibration, engine mounts (bearings and bushings), solid tires.
